Itinerary:

DAY 1: Londrossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Moshi/Arusha to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. After obtaining permits, you will trek through the lush rainforest, where your guide will explain the local flora and fauna. This will be a relatively easy start, allowing you to get accustomed to the terrain.

  2. Duration: 3-4 hours
  3. Altitude Gain: 396 meters (2389m to 2785m)
  4. Overnight: Mti Mkubwa Camp

DAY 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira I Camp

Bid farewell to the rainforest as you begin your ascent towards the Shira Plateau. Here, the temperatures will cool, and the landscape will transform into a beautiful moorland. Enjoy expansive views as you trek towards your next camp.

  2. Duration: 4-6 hours
  3. Altitude Gain: 719 meters (2785m to 3504m)
  4. Overnight: Shira I Camp

DAY 3: Shira I Camp to Shira Hut

Continue your exploration of the vast Shira Plateau, allowing time for acclimatization while enjoying the breathtaking scenery. This will be a shorter trek to help you adjust to the higher altitude.

  2. Duration: 5-7 hours
  3. Altitude Gain: 391 meters (3504m to 3895m)
  4. Overnight: Shira Hut

DAY 4: Shira Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Ascend to the Lava Tower (a great spot for further acclimatization) before descending to Barranco Camp. The trek will take you through diverse landscapes, including semi-desert terrain.

  2. Duration: 4-6 hours
  3. Altitude Gain: 91 meters (3895m to 3986m)
  4. Overnight: Barranco Camp

DAY 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Tackle the famous Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding climb, before continuing to Karanga Camp. The views from here are spectacular, providing a perfect backdrop for the rest of your journey.

  2. Duration: 4-5 hours
  3. Altitude Gain: 48 meters (3986m to 4034m)
  4. Overnight: Karanga Camp

DAY 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Today, you will complete the South Circuit, which will offer panoramic views of the summit. Afterward, you'll reach Barafu Camp, where you can rest and prepare for the final push to the summit.

  2. Duration: 4-5 hours
  3. Altitude Gain: 628 meters (4034m to 4662m)
  4. Overnight: Barafu Camp

DAY 7: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

The day of your final ascent to Uhuru Peak! This is the highest point in Africa and a major achievement. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Mweka Camp, where you will rest.

  2. Duration (Up): 5-7 hours
  3. Altitude Gain (Up): 1233 meters (4662m to 5895m)
  4. Distance (Down): 13 km / 8 miles
  5. Duration (Down): 5-6 hours
  6. Altitude Loss (Down): 1789 meters (5895m to 3106m)
  7. Overnight: Mweka Camp

DAY 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

On the final day, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. You’ll receive your summit certificate here to mark your achievement before heading back to Moshi/Arusha for the end of your trek.
